Collaborative Pianist

START DATE:  2022/2023 School Year

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing musical accompaniment for the vocal/music department.


PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide musical accompaniment as needed for the Vocal Department throughout the school year in class and for school activities in the evenings and some weekends. To establish effective rapport with students; to motivate pupils to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to ensure that effective learning occurs for each student, every day.  180-day position


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide musical accompaniment as needed for the Vocal Department throughout the school year and as needed for school activities: Fall Show; Winter Concert; Spring Concert; Annual High School Musical.
  • Assist vocal music and instrumental music directors in regularly scheduled classes, practices, and dress rehearsals to include men and women’s choirs, concert choir, intermediate choir, chamber choir, both TBHS show choirs and District/State choir and band contests.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Works with individual students and/or groups of students as designated by the director.
  • Operates and cares for equipment/instruments used.
  • Departmental clerical duties as needed
  • Preparation to play notes and all assigned music accurately.
  • Maintain appropriate professional relationship and demeanor with students.
  • Maintain appropriate professional relationship with director and staff members.
  • Provide a positive adult image to students, mentoring professionalism at all times.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in content area
  • Proficient in piano accompaniment
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in major area of study
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • College preferred – 60 hours
  • Preferred experience: three to five years in music related assignments involving vocal music accompaniment
  • Proficient piano and keyboarding skills


COMMUNICATION SKILLS: 

  • Ability to communicate with students, parents and music directors regarding musical arrangements.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Advanced musical ability to effectively provide music accompanist and interpretation of musical arrangements.
  • Ability to interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, other maintenance staff, and business contacts from outside of the District.
  • Knowledge of department organization, methods, standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of standard business practices/methods and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Can prioritize multiple tasks, work under stress, meet deadlines and take direction.
  • Can work with frequent interruptions.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with administrators and co-workers.
  • Ability to perform general operations, which require the exercise of judgment.
  • Ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district requirements and School Board policies.
  • Ability to perform duties for prolonged periods of time, under stress, and with little direction.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk or hear and sometimes walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally the employee may lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files and paper.

The demands of an extended workday (extra-curricular activities, etc.), requires a high level of physical endurance. This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at one time.
