Part-time Custodian
Definition/Description
REPORTS TO: Business Manager
WAGE BAND: Support
This posting is for a part-time position performing custodial duties for the agency. Working
both independently and collaboratively with other staff, the custodial staff member is tasked
with general cleaning duties of building and grounds. Custodial staff members are responsible
for accomplishing routine cleaning tasks and keeping the building and grounds clean and
maintained. Other duties may include daily and other periodic custodial tasks.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Position-specific duties
• Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture
and dusting surfaces.
• Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets.
• Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap,
toilet paper, paper towels)
• Wipe mirrors and windows
• Performs indoor custodial duties as required, including but not limited to: meeting room
checks; empty recycling bins from kitchens and work areas; maintaining floor drains
• Moves furniture, supplies, and equipment as needed
• Performs tasks or completes projects required for specific department programs, in
collaboration with other staff
• Operate floor scrubber
• Clean kitchen areas
• Secure facilities after operating hours by ensuring doors and windows are closed and
locked.
• Stock supply closet and notify Business Program Manager when supplies need to be
ordered
• Keeps a clean and organized work area
• Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required
General duties
• Operates and/or learns a variety of technologies as needed
• Delivers high quality and accurate services to community members
• Under direction of Manager/Specialist and/or Administrative Staff, works within specified
timelines
• Prepares for and participates in regular meetings with staff and others as required
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
• Collaborates in the development of and contributes to individual, team, and agency
quality improvement and evaluation activities
• Adheres to agency policies and guidelines
• Helps ensure compliance with applicable regulations
• Represents agency to external partners, groups, and the general public
• Builds and maintains effective relationships with fellow staff members and promotes a
positive working environment
• Promotes and participates in relationship building with other organizations, agencies, or
individuals
• Provides support for and/or participates in agency community outreach activities, as
directed
• Protects and safeguards confidential agency and client information; exercises sound
judgment and caution in communication and transmission of information
• All employees of the agency are considered emergency responders and may be
expected to respond in the event of a public health threat or emergency; this may
include, but is not limited to, requirements to work longer shifts, nights, or weekends;
alternate working locations; performance of duties other than the daily routine.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
• High School diploma or GED equivalency
• Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
• Basic understanding of core public health functions, competencies, and essential services
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in use of computer applications including email, web browsers, and Microsoft
Office Word and Excel
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups on complex issues
• Ability to work with limited supervision
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the agency’s mission
• Willingness to engage in personal development, continuous learning, and ongoing
training
• Must be able to attend job-related events and meetings
• Physical demands: ability to lift heavy objects (50+ lbs); stand, walk, sit, climb or
balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; use hands with dexterity; talk, hear; specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception
• Valid Missouri Driver’s license
